""My nerves vibrated to those low-spoken words s they had never vibrated to thunder-my blood felt their subtle violence as it had never felt frost or fire: but I was collected, and in no danger of swooning." I looked at Rochester: I made him look at me. His whole face was colourless rock: his eye was both spark and flint. He disavowed nothing; he seemed as if he would defy all things. Without speaking; without smiling; without seeming to recognize in me a human being, he only twinned my wrist with his arm, and riveted me to his side"(294).
This was what Jane was feeling as the stranger at her wedding revealed that Rochester had another wife. It was like I could feel exactly what Jane was feeling. I could picture myself in Jane's situation. Charlotte Bronte did a great job describing what happens when your heart sinks into your stomach without using that over used metaphor. You can tell Jane was angry, and sad, and curious all at one time. Also, on the opposite end, I can see Rochester's face being a "colourless rock". Although I couldn't tell if he was only mad because his secret had been revealed or if he felt sorry for Jane for having to find out how she did. Along with other evidence in the novel, and quotes about Rochester's love for Jane, I believe he was upset Jane had to find out period.
